Cause of miniaturization and the rise of the power density the thermal properties of electric devices are very important. Especially for LEDs the transient thermal analysis is the preferred method to predict max. junction temperature and the lifetime. However, customized automatic high volume test equipment is not available on the market.
The university of applied science Ingolstadt develops a fully automated measurement system for thermal transient analyses for power LEDs. A prototype is build up within a governmental funded project. A Spin Off company “RtHTEC” will be founded and a commercial tester will be available in 2018. The huge advantage of the system is the reduction of engineering hours for measurement and data analyses while having very accurate measurement results.
