Dr. Stefan Kreidler is Network & Innovation Manager at onlog (Suisse) SA. He has been Program Manager for the ComuLux Program focusing on energy efficient outdoor lighting. Mr. Kreidler is also Founder and CEO at Kreidler Management Competence KMC and has been Founder and Board Member of the ETH – MBA Group.

Theory of Light – Reloaded

Goethe argued Newtons Theory more than 200 years ago but his calls for ‘more Depth’ in observation have been pushed aside and neglected. Developing Theory of Physics has always been closely linked to Philosophy since many Phenomena and Concepts can’t be directly observed. Paradox has lead ‘Thinkers’ to developing better models and new theories. Putting ‘Light’ in dispute possibly means reorganizing the gardens of Einstein, Newton, Planck and many more big names.

With the development of Science a number of artificial light sources have been found. All these light sources have been based on new ‘insight’ and understanding of what light is – or could be. In common theory Light is believed to be:

  • A ‘Wave’ of electromagnetic Energy.
  • A ‘Beam’ of Photons (Particles).
  • Travelling at the Speed of Light as a constant along with some other constants known from Einsteins Relativity.
  • Transferring its Energy by ‘Quantum Mechanics’ on a single atomic level.
  • ‘Indifferent’ in spreading and perception – radiating equally from everywhere to everywhere.

Goethe disputed that Newtons ‘Optics’ – developed in restricted laboratory experiments – were not ‘the whole Picture’. Later Tesla and many others – observing Phenomena beyond electricity – disputed electricity (electromagnetism) being the sole ‘driver’ of Physics. Quantum- and Particle Physicists dispute Einsteins Relativity since their models can’t be unified with such theory. LEDs will possibly dispute the understanding of light and the underlying theory of Physics. Particular Phenomena around LED light sources bring up questions. Filament LEDs abduct heat by Helium! Helium – being a noble gas – has no electric charge. According to actual Theory it could not ‘communicate’ by electromagnetic waves to abduct heat. This phenomenon is putting the theory of light in dispute – along with the general theory of physics.

‘Cybernetic Relativity’ is a new theory to respond paradoxes of light and physics. It is based on communication of matter while Matter and mass are to be well differentiated. Matter is not indifferent to energy (light) and ‘direction’ is highly relevant. Conversion of energy to matter and vice versa does not happen by probability but by predefined kinematics. Cybernetic Relativity proposes Order- instead of Chaos Theory. The single Atom as a unit of Mass loses importance to a number of Particles that formulate Matter by arranging in well ordered manner. Light – as one phenomenon of energy – is newly defined as an energy field of particles (eventually clustered to matter) that communicate from such matter (emitter/carrier) with other matter (receiver/sensor).

‘Light’ communicates with most Matter in solid or liquid state in a manner that makes Matter visible to the human eye. Light is also known to communicate with matter in the state of gas (or Plasma) in different manners – some of them visible to the human eye others not. Communication of light with e.g. (metallic) sodium or mercury are widely known from many lighting products. Invisible communication with Halogen or Helium Gas are less known. Is such ‘communication’ really limited to electromagnetic aspects (Photons/Electrons) or may there be further aspects? Communication – as a phenomenon of exchanging energy – between LEDs and Helium in a ‘non-electromagnetic’ ambient may help to merge to new paradigms of understanding of light, relativity and physics.
