Master Builder & Civil Engineer DI Hubert Rhomberg is Managing Director of Rhomberg Holding GmbH and – now in the fourth generation – in charge of the internationally active Rhomberg Group, which has its headquarters in Bregenz, Austria. The name Rhomberg stands for sustainable building as much as for sustainable mobility and resource productivity. After graduating in engineering at Vienna Technical University Hubert Rhomberg worked for the construction company Strabag in Linz and Vienna for three years before, in 1998, joining his family’s company in his role as Manager of the Civil Engineering department and in charge of developing the Railway Technology division. In addition, he supplemented his practical entrepreneurial knowledge by taking a postgraduate course in Company Management at the well known University of St. Gallen. Following his holistic approach, the three divisions Construction, Railway Technology and Resources have not only established sustainability as a principle but continue to set standards.
Hubert Rhomberg extends his range of activities by actively promoting research projects (BRIX, House of the Future, LifeCycleTower) and giving public lectures on the subjects Resource Productivity, Mobility and Sustainable Company Management.
Building Processes Revolutionized by a Multifunctioning Home Automation – Get Your IoT Building with Aladin
Whether on a national or an international level, the current construction process – both in economic, environmental and social terms – has reached its limits. There are no other industries worldwide which hold onto old traditions for so many years, such as the construction industry still does. That´s why today’s construction process and the procedures connected are entering a digital revolution. The disruption resulting from this will affect all businesses involved in the planning, executing and operation process. By using BIM, product decisions happen at a much earlier stage of the planning process with the result that previous works in the industry shift to semi-finished and ready made products. Building on the construction site will transform into assembly, whereby the production of the modules (e.g. finished outside wall including windows, blinds, plug sockets, shell, etc.) succumbs an industrial production/fabrication. Along with this the interfaces, coordination effort. and the connected risks for errors are reduced due to the modular production with the end result of a reduction in costs, time and risks. The demands of digital buildings whose electric components are interconnected make for a new provision of services. Rhomberg Ventures is focusing on an autonomous multifunctioning home control element as a device with a lighting function in the form of a floor lamp or a hanging lamp, which can simply be connected to an existing power grid. The sensors and devices built into the intelligent luminaire are able to collect all the data in the room, interchange them and control surrounding components via wireless technology. Not only a conventional EIB/KNX bus control system but also an extensive and high-maintenance home technology installation will become obsolete. Existing buildings as well as new buildings will become IoT buildings with “Aladin”.
