THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF URBAN LIGHTING DESIGN

Dipl. Psych. Torsten Braun

Torsten Braun went to Trier to study psychology – the reason for this was the central allocation of study places. Among other things, his focus was on perceptual psychology. The native of Bremen already dealt with the topic of light in his diploma thesis. Braun got his first position as project manager in Innsbruck in 1988 with Christian Bartenbach, one of the pioneers of light planning. In 1990 he returned to Germany to drive Zumtobel’s expansion. There the fifty-nine year old met his two future office partners Jörg Klasen and Klaus Hochschwarzer. After almost six years as an employee, Braun set up his own office, “Die Lichtplaner”. Already as a pupil he had the desire to work on his own account. The father of three wants to be able to do what he enjoys. And he wants to take time for certain rituals – like the annual fishing trip on the Müritz with the two grown-up sons. When Braun isn’t travelling for his job, his dog cycles his daily work routine in the office in Limburg-Staffel.
